Palm Springs International Airport (PSP) is charging ahead with a major parking upgrade: the installation of 80 new Level 2 electric vehicle chargers in Parking Lot B, directly in front of the terminal. Upon completion, PSP will be home to one of the largest airport charging arrays in Southern California—second only to the region’s biggest hubs Los Angeles (LAX) and San Diego (SAN).
The airport’s total cost of the project is about $400,000 after rebates, an investment that supports both statewide clean-transportation goals and PSP’s own sustainability initiatives. Like all airport projects, it is funded entirely through airport-generated revenue, not local taxpayer dollars.
Construction begins immediately and will continue in phases through the end of 2025, closing portions of Lot B at times. While this will temporarily reduce the airport’s main parking supply by about 10%, PSP’s easy, up-close parking will remain available in Lots A, C, and D. The airport’s overflow lot on Kirk Douglas Way with more than 800 additional spaces will be available as needed, accessible by a quick shuttle ride to and from the terminal. The new chargers are scheduled to come online in early 2026, giving EV drivers direct access to charging just steps from the terminal.
“Palm Springs International Airport is proud to meet the new standard for sustainability and convenience with the installation of 80 EV chargers right at the terminal,” said Harry Barrett, Jr., Executive Director of Aviation. “We’re grateful for our community’s patience during construction, and we look forward to delivering a project that keeps PSP easy while moving us toward a cleaner future.”
PSP is making improvements every day. As part of Progress PSP, this project joins dozens of other upgrades already transforming the airport experience—from smarter parking to refreshed terminal spaces. See what’s happening now and what’s coming next at ProgressPSP.com.
