Palm Springs International Airport (PSP) is proud to introduce Quiet by Design, a redesigned audio environment that reduces unnecessary overhead announcements and replaces them with a more intentional, streamlined approach to communication.

Fully implemented across the terminal, Quiet by Design brings clarity and calm to the travel experience — elevating the welcoming spirit that defines both our airport and the destination we serve. The program delivers essential information thoughtfully and efficiently, creating a quieter, more modern terminal that supports PSP’s commitment to an exceptional guest experience.

Quiet by Design improves how information is delivered while reducing noise throughout the airport. Instead of broad, frequent announcements, gate-level messaging is now more targeted, concise, and consistent. Passengers still receive all essential flight updates, but without the constant audio interruptions that can create stress or confusion. Visual displays now carry a greater share of information, working in harmony with refined sound zones to provide a seamless, easy-to-navigate experience.

“Our terminal has always been known for its sense of calm — open-air spaces, natural light, and a relaxed desert aesthetic,” said Harry Barrett Jr., Executive Director of Aviation. “Quiet by Design enhances that feeling. Guests now enjoy a more peaceful terminal without sacrificing clarity or access to information.”

Quiet by Design is one piece of PSP’s ongoing investment in elevating the guest experience. The airport has expanded its curbside and volunteer Navigator teams to provide warm, personal assistance throughout the terminal, refreshed its concessions program with new dining and retail options, and added more passenger amenities including increased charging areas and updated seating. These improvements work hand-in-hand with the quieter audio environment, creating a terminal that feels more intuitive, welcoming, and reflective of the relaxed spirit of Palm Springs — with even more enhancements on the way.
